Why?
By now I am sure everyone is aware of the terrible shooting spree on the campus of Virginia Tech, in which 32 students were killed by a crazed blood-thirsty killer. Also, everyone is asking "why?" - i.e. why did this happen? The media loves to give us all kinds of answers in those situations, and pose as the psychologist of America, with its hand on our shoulders, trying to make us feel better. They are now blaming "Glock" for making a gun that is compact, lightweight and fast...as if the gun on its own decided to go on a stroll killing innocent people. What a bunch of BS!
The truth is that this terrible shooting happened because in most states, gun-control policies do not allow U.S. citizens to carry weapons in places such as schools, airplanes, and restaurants. One single armed Virginia Tech student would have been able to stop this insane shooter and greatly limit the number of casualties, just as one single armed citizen could have stopped 9/11 from ever happening.
Ironically, a non-citizen, a Korean was able to walk on a U.S. college campus and cause this kind of carnage while U.S. citizens were left defenseless by the laws put in place by politicians driven from place to place by armed bodyguards in bulletproof limos.
Stop depending on the government to defend you when you go to school, eat your lunch or fly on a plane, and stop asking "why?" Become a libertarian or click on the image below for the Libertarian position on gun control.

Requiring or permitting everyone to be armed would only replace large tragedies with many smaller ones. Accidental shootings alone would exceed 32 annually. Add in spur of the moment suicides and shootings and who knows what the body count could be.by middleknowledge - 17 Apr, 2007 - 11:17:47
Virgil,Now that makes sense!

JD, I have to disagree; it is not the government's place to give or take personal responsibility away from its citizens; this V Tech. killer did not care about gun control, he broke the law and killed 32 people.Carrying guns in many states involves a learning process during which one learns the basic ways of handling a weapon, loading it and shooting it.
To raise the same argument, AIDS kills a lot of people as a result of homosexual sex, which should lead to the conclusion that homosexuals should be jailed and banned from having sex. But we have the common sense to not do that and say "they are responsible people and they should live responsible." Law abiding gun owners apparently do not fall into the "responsible" category.

JD,You should consider how much crime, murder, and rape are daily thwarted because people carry. There's nothing like a shiny piece of steel to change the mind of a would-be attacker. It happens every day in every big city in America. It happens in the out-of-way places. But you won't hear about those in the news. You hear about the ones like the V.T. who went into a "gun free" zone where no one could/would stop him.
Guns save lives.

I just found out, a Romanian-Israeli professor was also killed at V Tech after shielding students long enough to get away. It makes me proud to be a Romanian:http://www.iht.com/articles...

Virgil, I don't think that this is a black and white gun control issue. How many "legal and licensed" drivers out there have died or killed innocent people through driving drunk or wrecklessly. Many schools have abandoned "Driver's Ed" classes and now more and more young people are being killed by irresponsible behavior behind the wheel. Giving people licenses to drive - OR carry guns - MUST be equated with strong moral responsibility. As parents we should educate our children, or ensure that they are educated, on appropriately handling violence and responsibility. We live in a different world since the end of the 20th Century. We cannot ignore the need to demonstrate and teach the art of discernment - which is very difficult in a society that is always afraid of verbally "offending" someone, or that appears to be more efficient at reporting a tragedy, than preventing or ending one!!by Mick - 17 Apr, 2007 - 11:46:17

Marty, I could not agree more; any law which enabled law-keeping in a civilized country assumes personal responsibility as the foundation for communal living. The difference between driving and guns, is that the constitution does not specifically address driving (thus driving can be highly regulated) while it specifically addresses the inalienable rights to own and carry guns for protection, not just from each other but also for protection FROM the government! Those tragic events really only continue to stand as an icon for what happens when people live separated from God and when the Kingdom and reign of Christ is rejected.

Virgil,"AIDS kills a lot of people as a result of homosexual sex, which should lead to the conclusion that homosexuals should be jailed and banned from having sex. But we have the common sense to not do that and say "they are responsible people and they should live responsible." Your words.
1. AIDS kills
2. From homosexual sex
You forgot to include the innocent AIDS victims. Homosexuals are NOT responsible people. They do NOT all have unprotected sex. Your argument that law abiding gun owners should be compared to responsible, though infected AIDS homosexuals, is totally off. Homosexuality should be, and once was, a crime. But, like gun laws, the Libs have changed that. I see no difference between a homosexual with a chargedm AIDS infected penis (weapon) from a gun toting psycho. Both should be eradicated. They are both sick.

Sam, I don't want to get away from the main point of gun-rights, but actually most states have laws against "sex while HIV positive" so yes, that's a crime. That is where personal responsibility comes into the picture. My point is that personal responsibility is not something that the government gives or takes; in civilized societies, it's an assumed foundation.

great point. I never thought of it that way! virgil you the man!by John H. - 17 Apr, 2007 - 15:48:46
My question is , what drove this man to do it? Was it family?Friends? A mix of both or more?To be honest, though I feel sory for the victims, I feel a lot more sorrow to the shooter.
Did a christian ever talk to him? Was he snubbed by christians just like the two colombine boys?
Sometimes victims aren't just the ones who are killed. I believe sometimes its the one who is shunned, and acts in ways like this. I want to make clear that I dont excuse the actions, but perhaps understand why they are done.

Stuart, glad to hear I made you think about the issue in a new way :)John H, I can relate to your thoughts as well; fundamentally speaking, those issues are issues of the heart, but who knows what deep and dark secret would motivate someone to take the lives of 32 people? It's crazy, insane and sad at the same time.

I don't know why some of these things always make me curious, but some famous massacres seem to have hit in Mid April:9:00 AM April 19 1943 Warsaw Ghetto Burned
50 Years to the hour later:
9:00 AM April 19 1993 Waco
2 Years to the hour after that:
9:00 AM April 19 1995 OKC Bombing
Also In April:
April 28 1996 Port Arthur (Australia)
April 20 1999 Colombine Shooting
April 17 2007 VA Tech
Probably nothing, just odd ...
